David, Thank you for the pic which always helps. We get numerous requests for specific plastic gears commonly used in everything from childrens toys to office equipment (like paper shredders). Unfortunately we only stock those listed on our website which is standard MOD 0.5 and MOD 1 plastic gears. There are thousands of other variations produced all over the world which we simply could not stock even if we could source them. To hazard a guess, you may have a MOD 0.6 outer gear and a MOD 0.8 inner but it could equally be a 40DP outer and a 32DP inner if imperial. The only thing we can suggest is to contact the original equipment manufacturer. |

Dear Technobots, I am a design student currently in the process of making a hamster cage/paper shredder and need to gear the shredder (which is placed on the top of the cage) to the hanster wheel, so that when the hamster runs on his wheel the paper, ever so slowly, becomes hamster bedding. Now, I am not sure how much power a hamster generates, but my guess is not much, so it may be that he will never be able to power the shredder, but I would like to try! In the case that he is not strong enough to make it work, a video mock up of the device working would be enough. So I am after some gears to attach to a plate on the end of the cage from the hamster wheel to the paper shredder. Either one large/one small or perhaps a series of gears. Could you advise me on what would be suitable? Thank you in advance, Kind Regards, Tom Ballhatchet |

Dear Tom, Rather than gears you may find it easier to use a light duty chain and sprockets. Although we also have a light duty chain for gears as well. Take a look at the chain and sprockets which also includes the MOD 1 gear chain. The MOD 1 gears can be found here. No idea what ratio you need but you may have to use a 2 stage reduction. I'm repairing a small motorised Pan/tilt camera. I need a 10T 1.9mm 6mm (approx) dia gear. The gears fitted to the unit look very similar to the white ones shown in the lower half of your 'MOD 0.5 Plastic Spur Gears' page. Not shown (frustratingly) is the size I need. Have you anything? Thanks and Rgds. |

Andy, The size is actually MOD 0.5. See http://www.technobots.co.uk/discus/messages/5/827.html if you need help in working out the diameter based on the MOD. 10+2X0.5 = 6mm so should be rather close to your size. |

Your nylon gears with brass hubs seem to be what I require for making a model. What worm gear would be suitable for use with these gears, and to fit to a 2mm motor shaft?. |
