Do NiCads have to be discharged before recharging?

There is a general belief that NiCads suffer from a memory effect although not all 'experts' seem to agree on this. Our own experience especially with our Bot-Packs is that regular cyclic use (as would be found in electric vehicle applications) negates the need to discharge before charging. However, we do recommend that every 3 months or so, the NiCad pack is discharged slowly until the pack voltage is down to approx 1V per cell (24V pack is down to 20V for example). The Mercury EX Charger is ideal for this as it will stop the discharge automatically thus preventing a deep discharge and possible damage to the cells.
