Hi, I was looking at the RD01 Robot Drive System as a possible means of driving my robot. It seems pretty good value for money especially considering its lightweight and all-in-one. But looking at the weight I am wondering - do you know whether this drive setup would be robust enough for the featherweight category or would I be better using it in a lighter category such as for a 6kg bot? Its out of interest mainly, knowing the amount of power featherweights dish out these days, so I've got a better idea of whether to consider it or go for something a little more bulky. Many thanks, Jamie |

Hello Jamie, This question has already been answered in the robot kits section, please see http://www.technobots.co.uk/discus/messages/121/321.html?1156187242 We are expecting stocks of a new geared motor in about 2 months time that will be ideal (on paper) for feathers although we have yet to see a sample to test. |

So it has Apologies for that - I didn't spot that when I skimmed the forum before posting. Thanks for pointing it out Regards, Jamie |

How much weight can the RD01 Robot drive system handle? My robot is about as heavy as a bag of cement! And does the speed controller have an input for a radio control? thanks |

Mike, Please see the thread above and no, the RD01 would not be suitable for a 20kg robot! Motor size would also depend on what robot speed you required. If you can advise the speed and if 2 or 4 wheel drive, type of steering, we will advise a suitable motor. |

Thanks Paul. My robot is a modle of K9 from dr who. I want to steer it by radio control with two motors on the front and a single castor on the rear. I have managed to use a wiper motor from a car before but only as a single motor (which is fast enough)I do have two of these left but cant drive them? Can you advise? I want to move the robot forward, back, left and right with 1 stick on the remote if you know what I mean. Hope this makes sense. Thanks Mike |

Mike, A wiper motor is typically 80 to 100W but you would need to confirm this. You are close to getting away with a 1502-001 if you mount a heatsink on it. Single stick control is not a problem and is offered as standard with the 1502-001. If you can confirm your motor current, I should be able to size the controller for you. Regards Paul |

The RD01 kit says 12v supply at 6 amps. So which battery and charger is a good combination? In order to approximate other dynamics then how heavy is the DC01 and the battery? |

Battery size is also determined by your required running time, please advise. When you refer to the DC01, do you mean the RD01? |
