Speed controllers require a power supply usually a battery or batteries and a pair of wires to go to the motor. In addition, the speed controller needs a signal to tell it what speed to go. This signal could be as simple as a variable resistor or could come from a mixer (see radio control section for info)

Unless you are using brushless motors, then you need 'three' wires to the motor as they are miniature version 3-phase AC motors.

Running brushless motors on a standard 2-wire speed controller will result in damage, no revolutions, no fun and no smiles. 3-wire brushless speed controllers and motors, are the most expensive but equally the best driving force on the present market. Choose your motor and speed controller options from Technobots shop.

I am currently making a robot similar to the robot in Rex's Robot Challenge. I am using two wiper motors and these are going to be powered by 2x 12 volt (1.3 Ah) batteries. I am looking to buy a speed controller and am considering using 2 Electronize 15A speed controllers. The robot will be operated by a 2 channel radio system. The problem that I have is that I don't know how to wire up the speed controllers so that the movement of the throttle and steering sticks is the same as the movement of the robot. I would appreciate any help or advice that you could give me.

David,

It always pays to do a search of our FAQ section first as your questions may already have been answered.

If you look in the general speed controller section you will find a section titled "How do I wire up a speed controller". If you also check out the radio control section and then mixers, you should find the answers to your remaining queries.

Naturally if you have any further questions feel free to ask.
