Hi I am building an Emergency Reconnaissance Robot prototype for my AS level Engineering Project. I was looking at using the 10" Split Steel Hub 19mm Bearing Wheels (part number 4260-001) , I was wondering how to remove the bearings from two of them to allow powered drive to them?

Also, what size steel bars do I need to use for the two pairs of wheels (one pair with bearing, one pair without), presumabley it is 19mm??

Thanks a lot, Liam

Hello Liam and thank you for registering on the forum.

To remove the bearings whilst not impossible would not really leave the wheel fit to use. If you check out this thread you will see quite a lengthy discussion on the topic. take a look and come back if we can be of further help.

Thanks, I will probably overcome the problem by welding a plate onto the axel, and then fix the plate to the wheel with bolts as suggested (from the motor side allowing the wheel to be removed).

However, I notice that you don't supply steel bars in 19mm for the axel. Is it possible to turn a 20mm bar down to 19mm?
Thanks again.

Liam,

Whenever I make up an axle, I always prefer to start off with a larger diameter and turn it down to form a shoulder. This stops the wheel from sliding in one direction. You can turn down both our silver steel and hardened steel bar in a lathe assuming you have access to one. If not, a local machine shop should help for a small donation!

Steve,

Sorry that dimension was missing from the website which we have now updated. The bore is 2.8mm.

Hi Sid,

Bore 8mm, see the inserts for reducing bore to 4 or 5mm.
