Derek, What diameter are the "chain pulleys" or how many teeth and the pitch?

I am not sure about the chain pulley set up as yet. i am making up the design as i go along. I had thought of using a corded pulley with a timer circuit to start and stop, so the chain idea is from today. If the motor size was 35mm, that would good.

Derek, The motor diameter is secondary. First you need to know the motor speed and torque required and to calculate that the sprocket details are needed. Even if you choose something close to what you are after and refine it later. Otherwise we would have to make an assumption and base all calculations on that assumption.

I have no idea as to how to calculate the torque. All i know is that i want to raise a weight of 2-3 kg with two motors driving 4 of the RA Bevel Gearboxes 2 meters in 30 seconds. I am new to this being an artist so i will have to do a little more research about torque and gear ratios. Can i attach a drawing of my design?

Derek, We were going to calculate the motor speed, torque and power for you based on the figures you provided, we just needed the sprocket details to do this as a large diameter sprocket will move the load more quickly and require more power than a small diameter sprocket which means the motor gearing will be different.

Thank you....If you could give me a range of variables with regards to the gearing. The piece i am making is an art work and to work all day. The piece raises a weight, drops it then raises again, i have made the mechanism to disengage the drive.

Derek, These motors should be fine based on the worse case of all of the figures you provided: 1450-055 @ 6V 1450-062 @ 7.2V 1450-105 @ 9V

Derek, Yes you will need a coupling to link any motor to a shaft, we stock a number of couplings, simply choose the one that has the corresponding bore sizes for the motor shaft and gearbox shaft. If a solid coupling is not available, you may have to choose a universal coupling instead as they have a lot more options for mismatched shaft sizes.

Derek, Thank you for the order, yes the motor you have selected has a 6mm shaft so the 5-6mm coupling would be right.
