I have a couple of questions concerning the Tamiya 70097 Twin-Motor Gearbox 1452-003, what power rating does this motor have? Also, Im think of using it in the pololu round robot, with a 90x100mm pcb and couple of batteries attached, do you think it would be capable of shifting this weight? |

Anthony, We have not been able to obtain the power rating of the Tamiya range. When using the 70097 with the Pololu round chassis, you are only able to use one of the available gear ratios. This ratio is one of the higer ratios in that the wheel speed is slower but does provide for increased torque. There would be no problem with an overall weight of 250g (our test weight)and would suggest that 500g would be fine as well. It does depend on the operating voltage, we ran at 6V through a speed controller giving about 4.5V at the motor. |

I am thinking of using Tamiya motor gearboxes in 16mm NG rail applications. The application will depend on size, for example if small enough they could fit within a bogie frame. Can you supply some typical overall dimensions of the motor gearboxes. Thanks Paul Kidger |

Paul, If you click on the 'More Images' button next to each Tamiya motor, a pop up will appear which has further pictures, then click on next to scroll through the pics (probably only 2 or 3 pics). One of these should have dimensions on but if unclear or not there, let us know our part number and we will check it out. Unfortunately there are no CAD drawings published and they are supplied in kit form unassembled making it more difficult to physically measure. |

I am building a 30 com upright walking robot- basically, a powered action man type figure. I have a working leg design but I need a motor and gearbox that will turn out something like 60-120 rpm. Your specifications give gearbox ratios but not engine rpms under load (at least that I can see, and specifically for the Tamiya ones). I would prefer a combined engine/gearbox, and the most powerful unit possible as this will be used outside. Any advice? Phil |

Phil, We publish all of the data we can obtain from manufacturers. The MFA range and Solarbotics range is fairly complete but the Tamiya range is lacking in final RPM data. We have a number of geared motors with the output speed you gave especially in the MFA range. If there is a particular model you need more data on, we will try and assist. Hi, I have a requirement to rotate a shaft (holds a small platform) with a full rotation of roughly 130-180 degs. (ie half a turn max!). Total weight shaft is subjected to is about ~1kg maximum. Fine/slow control is very important, hence I'm looking for a high ratio. The Tamiya 70110 (FA-130) gearbox has a 5402:1 setting. Would this unit be of any use? I think i would have to gear it down even more. Sorry, I'm new to all this! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Alan, Thank you for posting on the FAQ forum. Can you give us some idea of speed or in this case how long to rotate the 180 degrees? Is it to be fixed speed and what happens when it reaches the end of its travel? Regards Paul |

Ercan, Yes it does, it is rated at 3V but will work up to 6V, you can click on the 'more info' wording under the production description for more details. |

Hi, I'm building an Autonomous vehicle with sensors for my uni project. i want to use "Tamiya 70167 Single Gearbox 4-Speed" for each wheel to control the car going in any direction but i want to know does the motor do reversing aswell as going forward??? Regards Yusuf |

Yusuf, Further to your telephone call today, I can confirm that the Tamiya motors can all be reversed as can all of the motors we stock at the time of writing. |
