"It is our understanding that stepper motors are specified by coil current and coil resistance which we publish. You need to ensure that the coil current does not exceed the specified rating which can be using a current limit function in the controller thus allowing more flexibility over the controller voltage. If there is no current limit function, then the controller supply voltage should be set to ensure the coil current is within the limit specified. To give some idea of the voltage required, use Ohms law with the current and resistance figures quoted.
