I'm wanting to order some 8mm chain but I've never had to split and rejoin before. I can see you need a link that clips into place when rejoining but want is the best way to split chain. Do you simply drift out the pins with something or do you need a special tool?

John,

Whilst we have a chain splitter for 1/2" chain, all other sizes we drive the pin out with a parallel pin punch. We supply links to rejoin the chain but we always recommend not using the links for combat robots or for applications that have sudden changes in direction. In these case, we would drive the pin most of the way out, shorten the chain and then drive the pin back though to rejoin the chain. Always mushroom the end of the pin over slightly to stop it from working out.

Hopefully that makes sense.
