hi, if i program my PIC16F627 to make certain output pins high (say 2 pins go high), and wire that to this motor controller input.. would that work? im only looking to drive small motors. I bought a 'panel mounted variable speed regulator' from maplin already in a hope that i could use this, but it looks like i need to put 6 volts through it but i dont think my PIC could do that? |

Paul, Would what work? This 2-channel controller is easily connected to a PIC or any other CPU controller with up to 6 spare dig outs (although you can do it with less). The data sheet for this controller explains this rather well but in summary, if the 2 inputs (I1 & I2) to a channel are both high or low, then the motor brakes. If the two inputs are different states then the motor will spin, swap the states over and the direction reverses. Note that there is no speed control, the motor is either full on or full off. We have not tried it with the L298 but with the L293D chip you can PWM either the enable line or one of the input lines. This is how we speed control the PICAXE 28 project board for our Z48 controller which also uses the L293D. |

Hi i am thinking of using an L293D chip in my robot, i wish to drive a single motor both forwards and reverse. I see from the data sheet that there is a different voltage input for the supply and the logic supply. I am planning on the logic supply being the standard 5V, but if i want to use your GM11 motor, 5V, do i have to supply the chip with 6.8V, as there is a voltage drop through the chip? Or do i have to supply the chip with 8.6V, twice the 1.8V drop? Many Thanks Matthew |

Matthew, Do you mean just the L293D chip (3803-110) or the Solarbotics L293D Motor Driver board or as per this thread the L298 Motor Driver board? Let us know and we will try and advise. |

will the compact L298 motor driver run straight from motor-way software on a p.c. i.e. replace motor-bee driver. |

Adrian, Sorry but we are not familiar with those software packages. What interface ports do they use on the PC? As you didn't give an Email address, we couldn't send you a personal reply. |
