Hi, I wandered if the Variable Power Supply 25A 1090-012, which I understand features variable voltage and variable amps, could be readily used as a psu for electroplating? In principle it looks as if it should, but maybe you know better? Many thanks in advance, Adolfo

Hello Adolfo,

This power supply does not have variable amps, in fact it has no current limiting. Sorry but we have no experience of electroplating but I would have imagined that a variable constant current limit would have been useful. You can set a constant voltage with this power supply but do you need constant current for electroplating?

Could you recommend a 120vAC-13.8vDC power supply that I could use to run most of the accessories on my car?
The starter cable would be disconnected and I will access the accessory wiring.
This would have to be rated for continuous use.

Would the Part # 1090-010 40Amp variable PS be about what I need ?
Price is no object if product will stand up to day to day use. I might need more Amperage.

Ian, Sorry for the delay in replying. The dimensions in mm are approximately 80H x 170W x 190D. I did not remove the packaging so the actual figures may be a few mm away from these sizes.

Frank,

Not sure! That is quite a large motor drawing something over 15A as you are also effectively over-volting it to 13.8V. Also, motor starting currents can be over 5 times the nominal running current which will no doubt upset the power supply. All depends on what load is on the motor at start up. Another consideration is motor run down which means feeding energy back into the power supply although a blocking diode would help there.

Taking everything into account, I would say no, it is not suitable unless there is a motor speed controller between the power supply and motor acting as a soft start.

Matthew,

The only suggestion I have is to use our 6V 2.8A power supply 1090-041 and replace the connector with power plug 1204-020 or 1204-025 depending on shaft length.
