Hi there I am looking to motorise a model truck built from a kit for an exhibition layout (example image attached). I have seen the Tamiya Geared Motors and wondered if they would 'fit the bill'. I was thinking of using the Tamiya 70168 Double Gearbox - Part No: 1452-001 The model must start smoothly and run at a scale speed. Could you let me know the following please?... 1. Do the motor/gears make much noise 2. Is the mechanisim smooth in operation 3. Could you tell me how wide the mech is? 4. I will be using a tranformer and handheld controller to operate it. Have you any suggestions as far as the transformer is concerned? many thanks Nick Wright ![]() |

Nick, 1. They are a simple plastic open gearbox with quite high reving motors so yes, I feel they could be considered as noisy. 2. Not sure I know what you mean by smooth in the contect of geared motors but naturally they are not a high precision construction but still fine for model building. 3. If you click on the right hand thumbnail immediately above the product title, a dimension picture will pop up with the dimensions. 4. The motors are dc so a transformer will not be suitable unless it is rectified and smoothed making it a dc power supply. We do not currently stock transmformers but we have a range of dc power supplies and also voltage regulators that you could use to vary the motor speed. If this is of interest to you, let us know and we will point out the relevant products. Hope that is of some help but I guess that until you try one out, you will not know for sure if it is suitable for your application. |
