This circuit is a mini amplifier incorporating a sensitive PC board mounted electret microphone. It is designed around the popular LM386 amplifier Integrated Circuit. It can be connected directly to a small speaker or headphone, or you can connect it to an audio power amplifier such as the CK003 or CK193 for more output power. Supplied as a kit of parts.

"Tom,

The most obvious cause is assembly error, you should check not only for the right component / value in the right position but also for solder splashes etc..

From what you describe, the gain looks to be too high so wrong resistor value may be the cause. Do you only get a sound out when you speak into the mic, does it sound like the amp has gone into oscillation?"

"hi

i have assembled this kit. and when ever i speak into it all i get is a loud pitch sqawk. i have treid moving the mic and the speaker away from the curcuit and have tried reducing the volume but nothing seems to help. can you help me out?

"Hannah,

I can see no reason why not. Simply solder wires to the PCB from your own electret mic rather than solder in the included electret microphone."
