Hi. Thanks for all your help so far with my project. My first question is how I should mount your 6mm 25 tooth sprocket (8mm bore) to your 200W Part No: 1470-014 motor. (What is the shaft diameter on that motor?) Also, I want to mount your 6mm 40 tooth sprocket to your EMG30 wheels with a 5mm hub - I think I will do this by just bolting the sprocket to the wheel, then putting the whole assembly so it is free to turn on an axle. Would this work? Thanks, Andrew |

Andrew, As previously suggested, grub screw fixing is by far the easiest method. Sorry but I do not have the shaft diameter to hand but it is very likely to be 8mm or above. If above, as the boss diameter is 25mm the bore can be drilled out to suit the shaft. Many customers bolt sprockets direct to their wheels although I'm not aware of it being done on a EMG30 wheels. The only concern I have is that the 5mm bore will be too weak for a heavy robot. Supporting the wheel from both sides would be far better. |

If I wanted to use wheels other than EMG30 wheels, the only other rigid 10mm wheels on your site seem to be the castor - Part No: 4260-011. If I undid the bolt holding the wheel to the frame, what would I be left with? What diameter axel would the bearing need? Could I bolt the sprocket to this? Thanks for all your help, Andrew |

I have just done some more research, and remembered that before you mentioned that it may be possible to remove the hub from the EMG30 wheel. If so, could I: -Remove the hub, leaving me with a 7/8mm hole -Enlarge the hole to 30mm -Hammer the boss of a 40 tooth 6mm sprocket into the wheel -Add bolts if needed to prevent slippage -slide the sprocket (and attached wheel) onto an 8mm shaft. Would this work? (Basically replacing the existing central hub with the sprocket. Thanks yet again, Andrew |

Andrew, I have just checked and it looks like that if the aluminium insert is driven out of the wheel hub, it will leave a hole that looks to be about 7 to 8mm diameter in the boss. The boss is about 21mm diameter, drilling this out to 30mm will remove the boss and leave little thickness for the sprocket to mate with. I would not suggest going down that route. |

What about doing it the other way? Remove the hub, and drill out to 8mm Bolt the sprocket to the wheel (hub facing away from the wheel) using some spacers (washers) so they don't touch Mount the whole thing on an 8mm axel. What do you think? |

Andrew, removing the aluminium insert leaves a hole of 7-8mm, it may require a 8mm drill to ensure clearence. Spacers will need to be long enough to allow for the wheel boss. A 40T + chain is quite close to the wheel diameter so as long as that is okay for your application, no reason why it should not work. Can you send us pictures of it when you have finished, it's sure to be of interest to other builders. |
