With advances in microcontrollers and some clever programming, we have managed to squeeze the Diesel, Petrol and Steam sounds all into a single unit - the Combo. As with all of our sound units, it is designed to be used with any standard radio control system (1-2mS).

There are other enhancements in the Combo version over the individual sound units, 3803-210,211 & 212.

NEW FEATURES
  • Petrol, Steam and Diesel sounds in a single module (only 1 available at any one time of course)
  • Smoother, more linear throttle response
  • Tickover and top speed optimized for each selected cylinder count
  • Improved stability of idle timeout duration over the range of cylinder counts
  • Improved Diesel sound

The unit is easily installed by removing the ESC lead from your receiver and plugging in a lead from the sound unit in its place. The ESC lead then plugs into the sound unit, thereby obviating the need for a Y lead.

The unit's electronics take its power from the receiver, but the loudspeaker derives it power from either the model's main propulsion battery or a separate battery pack. Connections for the speaker power and the loudspeaker itself are made using screw terminal blocks.

The neutral state being indicated by a case mounted LED to assist setting transmitter throttle trim.

The Diesel sound in the Combo is actually an improved version of the combo, we will put a sound recording of this up as soon as we can.

Specifications

  • Contents: Assembled and tested engine sound unit, pre-crimped wires and housing to make up a 150mm lead to connect to the RC receiver, full colour instruction booklet.
  • Size: 80 x 40 x 20mm
  • Speed demand sensing method: Receiver throttle channel (unit has pass-through to ESC)
  • Neutral (idling) signal condition: 1.5mSec
  • Receiver voltage (which powers the unit's electronics): 4.8v min to 6v max (this is usually supplied by a BEC which is often incorporated in the ESC)
DO NOT USE A "6V" LEAD ACID BATTERY - a fresh fully charged one of these can output as much as 6.6v
  • Speaker impedance: 8 ohm minimum (Technobots part no. 2400-015 recommended)
  • Speaker supply voltage: From zero to 12v (governs the volume of the unit)
  • Audio power output: Approx 4W RMS @ 12v into 8 ohms (equates to 160W PMPO in today's modern hi-fi advertising terms!)
  • Engine type: Diesel, Petrol or Steam selectable using a link inside and a simple set-up routine.

Number of cylinders: (link selection procedure)
  • Diesel 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6
  • Petrol 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6
  • Steam 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6
  • Engine stop / start: Automatic, determined by throttle demand and idling period
